I guess they call it "Stonewall" for a reason, but the Dakota Wall* is the geological name of the landmark that defines the village of Stonewall Colorado in the town of Weston. I drove to Weston Colorado today and got a few photos. It's 45 minutes from Trinidad CO, where I live.
According to this internet source** "Stonewall was named [after] James Stoner, and it has been said the Dakota Wall the dominates the landscape was originally known as "Stoner's Wall". "
Go ahead and laugh... 'weed is legal, ha ha'. This was a great day trip though and just a few miles (15) further up Highway 12 are beautiful mountain lakes and the Rocky Mountains. Nice accommodations in Weston/Stonewall.
